The person suffering from dry eyes might experience excessive tearing or eye-watering as the tear gland tries to resolve the dry eye condition itself, over-producing unwanted, low-quality tears in an attempt to coat the eye. WebThe most widely used clinical test for assessing tear instability is the measurement of fluorescein tear break-up time (FTBUT). 5,6 Unfortunately, despite its widespread use in both clinical and research settings, it is recognized that FTBUT has poor accuracy and reproducibility. 7 A few characteristics of the test contribute to its poor performance.
