In the grounds is Littlecote Roman Villa, a Roman winged corridor villa and associated religious complex. It has been excavated under the direction of Bryn Walters, and is on display to the public. It was first discovered in 1730 when the Orpheus Mosaic and a coin hoard, supposedly containing coins of Vespasian (AD 69-79), was found. The site was rediscovered and excavated from 1978. WebRecently stayed at Littlecote house so took the opportunity to visit the remains of Roman Villa, and what a surprise to find the remains in excellent condition and the mosaic well protected in a covered building with a walkway allowing you to view the mosaic from all sides and a nice touch was the owl on guard to prevent birds roosting in the building roof.
